Our territory
People have inhabited Terre Sicane since time immemorial.
A crossroads of people and cultures, the Terre Sicane hosted the Sicanians first , who settled here since the XII century, after a long migration from Iberia, then the Phoenicians and the Greeks, who founded their colonies here during the VIII century B.C.
There stand the towns of Menfi, Sciacca, Santa Margherita di Belìce, Montevago, Sambuca di Sicilia and Contessa Entellina. Each town has got its own peculiarities and charm but they are indissolubly linked together by a wonderful and variegated territory with mountains, plateaux and gentle hills which descend from the inland area to the coastline. The flat sandy beaches and the wild and jagged cliffs open up to the brilliant blue of the African Sea.
The picturesque morphology of the ground is framed between the rivers Belìce and Verdura; it is crowned by Mount Genuardo mirroring in the Lake Arancio and brings out the luxuriant harmony of the cultivated land, thus creating enchanting landscapes.
This area comes out of a very generous nature which has created contrasting and unexpected wonderful sceneries, perfectly described in “Il Gattopardo” by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, who lived in this area: “Baroque towns and orange groves are just insignificant trills compared to these places, where the true aspect of Sicily reappears”. Places that live on an harmonic and sustainable agriculture, yielding high quality food products: oil, artichokes, prickly pears, citrus fruits, and above-all grapes and wine, symbols of an area constantly growing in quality.
Terre Sicane is one of the most welcoming and interesting places in Sicily thanks to the quietness of places, the mildness of climate, the clear blue of the unspoiled sea, the healing thermal waters in Montevago and Sciacca, the archaeological sites on Mount Adranone, in Entella and Montagnoli, the age-old woods of Risinata and Magaggiaro, along with the folklore traditions and the refined handicrafts, like the outstanding ceramics and coral of Sciacca.
Relying on their rich cultural identity, Terre Sicane represent an ideal holiday destination for people looking for gastronomy, culture and wellness, in a natural unspoiled environment far away from urban chaos and mass tourism.
